What to Do If You're Involved in a Traffic Accident

STAY SAFE AND ASSIST THE INJURED

Stop your vehicle in a safe location.

If the vehicle cannot be moved, set up warning devices to alert approaching traffic.

If anyone is injured, call an ambulance immediately (119) and provide first aid if it is safe to do so.

CONTACT THE POLICE

Report the following information to the police (110).

  • Location of the accident
  • Details of the accident
  • Whether anyone is injured
  • The extent of any injuries
  • Any actions taken at the scene

Follow the instructions provided by the police.

  •  Japanese law requires all accidents, even minor ones, to be reported to the police.

EXCHANGE AND RECORD INFORMATION

Make a note of improtance information, including:

  • The other party's details
  • Witness information
  • Vehicle information
  • Any other relevant facts regarding the accident

DO NOT ADMIT FAULT AT THE SCENE

Do not admit fault or make any payment or promise of payment.
